The Path to Success
Mary grew up in West Virginia, but it was a vacation to Montreal, Quebec that altered her life path significantly. One summer during her college years, she visited family who live up there and decided she wanted to stay for awhile. Always interested in banking, she took a position at the Royal Bank of Canada while continuing her economics studies. It was when Mary was introduced to the flurry of energy and excitement that was the International Trading Room that she fell in love with investing. She quickly worked her way up the ladder, experiencing a variety of Trader positions and learning as much as she could about the financial industry.
Though she loved her career, after 20 years in Canada, she and her husband, Richard, and son, Paul, decided to move back to the States to be closer to her immediate family in West Virginia. Growing up, she had visited Lexington many times and always loved the quality of life. And even though it had grown quite a bit over the years, the city's timeless charm remained and Mary knew this was the place for her. She enjoys making the most of life in theh Bluegrass region, whether it's cheering on UK basketball and football, playing golf, working out at the athletic club, attending horse races or taking an evening walk with Richard and their dog, Barkley. Mary also gets involved in the community, vounteering with the God's Pantry food store and reading a weekly "Women's World" segment on the Central Kentucky Radio Eye program for the visually impaired. Mary also works as an election official for the Castlegate precinct.
A Focused Approach
After working several years for Banc One Securities in Lexington, Mary ultimately decided to shift her career focus, as well. Though she loved the financial aspects of the banking world, she wanted to better connect with the good people of Central Kentucky and make more of a difference in the community. Personally speaking, she does believe that life is the best investment anyone can make, but financially speaking, it's real estate. "Real estate not only stands the test of time in terms of its financial impact, but a home means so much to the people who live in it," Mary says. "It's a very important emotional investment as well."
